Hi, let me introduce myself. I'm Wayne, the 'other' main pcc digger. I've been making some plans for digging this spring/summer, and realised that these goals won't get realised with just John and I putting in the long hours digging. This is long, so you may just want to skip to the end of this post past the argument for the 'action plan'.

I've read a few other threads in this forum talking about plans for the jumps this year. That is awesome, and John and I are happy people want to help. There's some really good ideas too! However, John has told me of past online and real life discussions where people want to help/dig. We've made plans to have dig days in the past, but usually it ends up with the two of us digging alone. Now don't say, "But I've dug for x hours at pcc!" because I have seen some work done by people and that is great. But, I think only John and I can say we have a dig:ride ratio of 3:1. Hell, we've often got off work, ate dinner, and brought lights to pcc to dig until 1 AM!

John and I have also been sort of elitest with trying to influence the building ongoing at the jumps. I was never comfortable shutting people down, but it did need doing sometimes because the quality of ddigging was LOW! I want to put a stop to this elitism and let more people have reign over the jumps. But we obviously expect that no one steps on anyone's past work without agreement, and most importantly BUILD IT WELL!

I'm moving to vancouver this august, so the simple fact is people gotta step up to give John a hand. The progression of new jumps/features at pcc has always been really slow. This is because the more jumps there are, the more regular maintenance needs doing. At the end of last year the jumps were beat up, all needing completely new lips. With snow melting they must suck now. I look at the potential man hours needed just to get each jump dialed and I am guessing around 50hrs. Because I am moving away, I don't want to invest 10-15 hrs a week digging anymore. It just isn't worth it to me because I won't get to enjoy the work for more than 2 months before I go.

BOTTOM LINE

So there are two outcomes:

1) The jumps only get fixed where John and I have time. Maybe we can build 1-2 new jumps

2) A PCC diggers crew gets formed. Everyone agrees to meet together and do maintenance / dig new shit you all agree upon. Jumps get fixed quickly in the season, and we get to build lots of new stuff.



I want to get a show of names of people willing to volunteer more time on a regular basis. This does not need to be a lot, but ~1 dig session weekly or biweekly with a crew of 6-10 people would be enough.

I am creating an email list which you can belong to and send/receive invitations for everyone else to come and dig. For example, just send out a message saying, "I want to dig sunday at noon. Who is in?". People reply, a crew meets, shit gets done.

is kinda sad there is no reply to this post, if he posted something saying you get a teeshirt for showing up i bet a bunch of posts will be here already, he's offering free dirt jumps and that is worth way more than a tee shirt or a bike for that matter, so how about you eastenders get of your ass and spend sometime building something for your self.

ahah... yes im planning on comeing out alot more this year to help build. since i and others here will be driving then it wont be as much of a hassle to get there with tools and whatnot. PCC definatly does need alot of work, especially after the winter we just had. well said about haveing more orgainized builds/building proceedures. if something gets done right the first time, hopefully it wont have to be done again(until next season that is)

Jay, shoot me your email too. I don't expect anyone who signs up to make it out to every invite, that's impossible. But if there's a group of 10 people, 3-4 will usually be able to show up for a given day.

I went to the jumps today. Whoever said in another topic that someone messed them up by riding in the muck was right! There's deep grooves and footprints everywhere! On the plus side, everything is dry/damp and ready for digging. No puddles at all.

I'm digging there tomorrow. Start plan is to fix lips, and worry about the grooves later. I'll be there around 10AM with shovels (i doubt anyone is available then!).

yeah, i was there, but nobody else...... i got rained on and the bugs were pretty bad, but the jumps are getting closer to good shape.
