Bar and Stem 7 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 8
So my birthday is coming up and my parents want to know what to get for me. I was thinking of something like a new bar and stem combo for the Commencal Mini DH.

I am looking for something light and strong to replace my Hussifelt combo with. I was browsing on pricepoint and saw a few things that sparked some interest, most notably an Easton Vice Stem and the Monkey Light Carbon bars. Now, my question is- would I be able to survive with the XC Carbon bar or do I have to get the DH carbon bar? Would I be able to find something better for a comparable price somewhere else? Keep in mind the price for both should be under 200 and preferrably under 150.

I would be using this commencal for racing at Kelso, general trail riding and the odd adventure at Blue, so it's not going to be hacked around on too much. I also have a chance to pick up some XT cranks off a buddy...they should be ok for what I'm doing right?

Thanks for any help,
Jon

well as far as the carbon bars go, i would definately stick with the carbon dh bars, carbon is reliable, but only to a certain extent the material can only handle so much pressure and i wouldnt want to be relying on it to stop me from eating total shit. as for the XT cranks i think they should be just fine i raced 4 Ocup races last year with them on my scott and they felt very strong and reliable no doubt, plus they are light as a feather for the size and strenth of them

Personally I would just get a EA50 or something. Super light and you wont need to worry about safety. But I wouldn't trust xc carbons on dh, no matter how smooth i just wouldn't risk it.

Alright guys, thanks for the help. I'm probably going to be ordering out of a Lambert Cycles Catelogue or off of Price Point. Any suggestions on some stems apart from the obvious (Thomson X4)?
