frame crack! 3 Months, 4 Weeks ago Karma: 3
alright soo im pretty sure my frame is dead.
i was riding around the past couple of days and heard a ticking sound, i though nothing of it till i was cleaning my bike, to put some stickers on it, then i saw that there was a cracked, in the head tube right beside the weld, or what i though is a crack, is there any posible way of telling if it is cracked for good or just a paint crack?

thanks gerald

never tried it before but maybe sand the paint off (since the paint has a crack anyway) at the crack and then wash it clean and see if its actually down into the metal or not...

The ticking could be from your cranks. But yeah sand the spot down.

haha no its not the shore, that bike has held up to alot of abuse though lol, but no its my full time bike, the wolverine, i gave duck boy skinny kid who ever you want to call him(the guy that was lending me the frame ) i gave him back the frame after i broke a bunch of parts at kelso number 2 and couldnt pay to get them fixed lol.
i will try to sand it down tomorrow.
and also should i just look into getting a hole new frame or just get some body to weld it? if i was getting a new frame im thinking of a blkmrkt riot or somthing good for street, park and some dj's.

i think you should still weld it up anyway. that way you can still ride it if you want to, and after you get a new frame/bike you can just keep that as a spare/back up frame if you need it....
or turn it into a lake bike

alright well i sanded it down and it is a crack in the frame not jsut a paint crack. im still trying to explain to my perent why i should just go out and get a new frame, but they have no biking nowledge so they get lost every time i try to explain stuff lol. my mom just said we will take it to the shop and see what they say, im pretty sure i know waht the boys are gona say though. but it will help my mom if she hears it from a real bike mechanic.

If you think its a crack, its a crack. but you already know its a crack, so its a crack.
Don’t ride it anymore, I wouldn’t bother getting it welded unless you know & trust someone 100% to do it right. A head tube crack never fails softly or lightly & usually hurts a lot when it does fail.
If you send the frame back to Norco they may not warranty it but I would like to think they will at least pro-deal a new frame for you, they like to keep people on their products. Just tell them how much you loved the frame and how much you would love a (insert frame here) & they should be more than happy to help you if they have any left!
For a good head tube snapping video search “frame snapping” in the forum.
