The World Of Mountain Biking Hits Whistler Again August 9-17, 2008
WHISTLER, BC, September 24, 2007 - The fifth annual Kokanee Crankworx,
one of the world’s biggest and most popular freeride mountain bike
festivals is scheduled to hit Whistler, August 9-17, 2008. The
festival spans nine days and is packed full of excitement and
entertainment on and off the hill.
Showcasing Whistler as the No.1 place on earth for downhill biking,
Kokanee Crankworx brings the best of the best in the freeride scene
from around North America and the world. The festival not only
highlights the Whistler Mountain Bike Park but includes free, live
entertainment, pro demos and outdoor expos throughout Whistler Village.
“The 2007 event exceeded our expectations on all accounts. Kokanee
Crankworx drew hundreds of thousands of spectators from across the
globe who were able to experience the world’s best talent over an
action-packed nine-day festival” says Jeremy Roche, General Manager of
Kokanee Crankworx.
Building on the ever-increasing success and impact of Kokanee Crankworx
past, 2008’s festival is sure to be the must attend event of next
summer. Not only will this be the fifth year of the festival,
2008 also marks the 10th anniversary of the famed Whistler Mountain
Bike Park. With world class athletes descending on the Bike
Park, the competition is going to be fierce and the level of
entertainment incredible.
“Planning has begun for Kokanee Crankworx 2008 and while we haven’t
finalized all of the details, I think I can safely say that next year
will be off the hook both on the mountain and in the village,” Roche
continues.
For those who can’t wait for the big show, the Whistler Mountain Bike
Park is open until October 8. The closing weekend will include the
Harvest Huckfest with events like Slopestyle, Team Air Downhill and the
Air Dome Jump Jam, October 6-7.
The Fifth Annual Kokanee Crankworx, August 9-17, 2008, is presented by
Tourism Whistler, Whistler Blackcomb and the Resort Municipality of
Whistler. At the heart of it all is the Whistler Mountain Bike
Park, over 200km and 3,600 feet of gravity-fueled, single track,
Slopestlye and high speed trails, the Bike Park is the world leader in
Lift-accessed mountain biking.
