The doors
of Munich’s
Ampere club opened at 8:45 pm for more than 700 freeride mountain bike fans.
After the celebration of Smack Down in Las Vegas and St. Raphael, the people
from southern Germany were able to watch world’s best mountain bike
action shots, which were taken in Argentina, Israel, British Columbia, Europe
and the US.
A
second highlight this evening was the auction of bike stuff for the benefit of
Stephen Murray (www.stephenmurrayfamilyfund.com) and Tara Llanes (www.tarallanesroadtorecovery.com).
The auction achieved an amount of 13.000 Euros overall.
The who is who of the freeride
scene showed the spectators their extremely high level of riding performance in
“SMACH DOWN” - the eight part of New World Disorder. Concerning the
tricks, a complete magazine of the most different calibers is being shot like
out of a machine gun. Varying from bunny hops over cars and huge gaps to
flipwhips and camel hand plants. The coverage of the biggest contests in 2007
– like Crankworx, the Nissan Qashqai Challenge or the Bearclaw
Invitational – provided a huge pack of insane tricks, too.
To boost the surge of
adrenalin step by step, a highlight cut of the Nissan
Qashqai Challenge, the first urban freeride mountain bike
series ever, had been shown first. The auction for the benefit of Tara and
Stephen, two athletes suffered spinal cord injuries this year and were not able
to carry on with their sport any more, followed.
There was a big range
of products being auctioned: e.g. a Kona Cowan dirtbike, a Mavic Crossmax
wheelset, a custom-made fi’zi:k
saddle and Oakley C100 sunglasses. Red Bull had the winning bid for a Camelbak
backpack. Red Bull has been active within the mountain bike sport for many
years now. Tara and Stephen were well known to Red Bull due to their
participation at events like the Red Bull Elevation or the Red Bull Race Down. Because
athletes always take the center stage at Red Bull, a bigger amount of money was
chosen to support Tara and Stephen on their way of regeneration.
Nissan
supports Tara
and Stephen in a special way. The Japanese car company, which is
well-known for
their great range of 4x4 vehicles (Nissan launched this year their
urban SUV
– the Qashqai) puts half of the entire entrance-fees that were taken in
Munich and will be taken in Cologne in addition on top. This money goes
immediately in equal parts into both funds of the injured athletes.
Great thanks also to
Timo Pritzel and Cedric Gracia for contributing their bike gear, to Red Bull
spending a lot of money for the backpack and to the other sponsors of the
premiere party: Kona, Nissan, fi’zi:k, Camelbak,
Mavic & Mountainbike Rider Magazine.
Following the auction,
the longed for New World Disorder 8 movie rocked the audience. One of the
viewers afterwards the screening:
“I
liked the first part the best. Andreu is crazy like hell. He has got the best
style and his flipwhips and superman backflips are just sick!”
Another guest
wasn’t able to contain himself and said:
“Paul
Bas rocks. NWD8 showed us, that he is not only a great contest rider, but also
is able to ride all kind of spots and he pulls a lot of very different and
difficult tricks. It’s amazing: the harder the tricks, the smoother his
riding!”
Good vibes and the
sizzling beats from DJ Chrome provided a long party night till the early
morning hours.
Special guest Cedric
Gracia brimmed over with enthusiasm for the premiere party: “I am very pleased, that I was able to help
Tara and Stephen by giving my Commencal signature DH frame. I love the good
vibes in here, and I have to say the Munich
people know how to party. I will come back next year for sure!”
So join the screening
of NWD8 SMACK DOWN and its after party in Cologne
on Saturday, November 17th at the Gloria theatre. Special guests
Andreu and Lluis Lacondeguy will be there to rock the house with you.
You can support Tara
and Stephen by coming to this event, bidding at the auction, or giving a
