So we had planned to take the D2 for a ride downtown. Then to a skate park and if everything went well we'll hit the dirt jumps with it. Well, it was a good plan. The problem was, downtown was a forty minute drive and the dirt jumps were a three minute ride. So guess what?
Not only we went straight to the jumps, we also let some local jumpers have a go at the Devinci District 2

Performance/Handling

The 2007 Devinci District D2 is a Dirt Jumper at heart, taking on anything that is thrown at it with ease, due to the bikes overallflyingd2matt.jpg respectable specification list. With the exception of the mainstream fork, Devinci has chosen to level out the price of the bike. The bike is very solid and very smooth. The brakes (tektro hydraulic) are surprisingly powerful but lack in modulation and overall lever pulling power. The drivetrain of the bike is quite smooth and takes stalling to backwards riding very well with little chain skipping. Devinci's frame design for the new District 2 is perfect for those who like to get up and over the toptube (due to the bikes low stand over height). It also manuals and pulls upward like a dream due to the bikes short chainstay length. At the same time, they have developed a beefy, stylish and relatively light frame to suit everyones riding style. The handlebars from Devinci offer the strength of oversized handlebars with little to no flex at all while under high pressure. Devinci's selection of hubs for the bike was a good one; the hubs, both front and rear are smooth and stylish.

Best features on the D2
Box stays, 2-piece stays, so it has added strength. Formed head tube. Replaceable ICG mount. Other frames don’t give you that. So what happens when you ride, and you hit your bash guard, you bend it--then you’re frame’s done. If you hit this one you can replace it and your frame will still be fine. There are rumours that they may be coming out with a horizontal dropout on this bike.
Reinforced gusseting in back butted head tube. The frame is powder coated; lifetime warranty on the frames, all Devinci bikes are guaranteed for life. Not standard on dirt bikes.

Components
On the D2 you’re getting hydraulic disc brakes for 12-hundred dollars. Some companies only give you cable disc brakes. No chain tensioner. This bike, when you get a dirt-jumper three, truvativ cranks with a box drive. S-ram componentry, techtro hydraulic brakes. They’re really good, surprisingly. The rotors are super beefy so it’s hard for them to bend. Some rotors come out very thin. These rotors are not standard rotors so they’ll take a beating.

Value for the price

For the price, you’re getting kenda k-rad tires. You're getting alex dm 24 rims. They are double wall wheels. You get hydraulic disc brakes, s-ram group components, dirt jumping fork with replaceable Stanchions (If you ever scratch it, you can bring it to a bike shop and get a replacement) rebound on the bottom of the forks and air assist. If you feel it's too soft, you can add 5-10 psi.

To sum up, the bike is perfect for those that want to get into the overall aspect of mountain biking without breaking the bank. This is definitely a first choice dirt jump and street bike. The District 2 is near perfect for a rider that likes to hit up the local dirt pit or ride some laid back street lines.
