Women’s pro Jackie Harmony hit the top step on the podium for the second weekend in a row at Crankworx Colorado. The BC born, but Arizona based racer seems to be peaking at the right time of the season heading into her major events including US Nationals where she’ll race to keep her Team USA jersey and earn a return trip to World Championships. In its own right, Crankworx Champion has a pleasant tone to it. “I am extremely happy with my race and still a little shocked, due to the (caliber of) girls I managed to beat.” Jackie said of the race. In the odd format where the top 5 qualifiers got to rerun and keep the best of their two times, Harmony threw down the fastest time of the day in her first lap. On her second lap, she got flagged down because of an apparent rider crash on course. Jackie hit the brakes hard coming into a double, caught a stump while squibbing across the top and crashed. She got back on her bike, rode the rest of the course and despite all of that posted a time only 1 second slower than her previous time. The flagging was apparently in error as there was no rider down on course. But after already posting the winning time, there was no need to request a rerun.
Jackie’s brodie teammate Joanna Petterson also hit the podium with a 4th place finish in the race. The Hawaiian based racer flatted in her second run and had to keep her qualifying run time. Petterson said her strategy to race conservatively and just make the top 5 on her qualifying run backfired a bit after the flat, but at least she still hit the podium, a place where she’s been in all but one World Cup start in her last 14 races.
Brodie Men’s pro Ian Odom also hit the podium for his second straight race with a 3rd place finish at Crankworx Colorado. The young pro out of Big Bear, CA is gaining confidence and looking faster at every race. Noting that he was happy with his time and result, Ian was just as stoked that “I was clearing this jump that no one else did!”
Also hitting the podium at Crankworx Colorado was Jr. Expert Chris Myers, with a 4th place finish. Myers was showing off his sleek looking new protective gear developed by Spyder.
